In memory of artists who are no longer among the living

On November 2nd, on the occasion of All Souls Day, the Association of Friends of the Poznań Parish Church, the Gospel Musical Society and the Catholic Association of Journalists held yet another concert from the series "Music in the Poznań Parish Church". We had an opportunity to listen to poetry and music by those who are no longer among the living, i.e. Zbigniew Herbert, Brunon Schulz, Alan Ginsberg, Edward Stachura, Wojciech B±k and Stanisław Grochowiak. Pieces of music that resounded during the concert were previously known to us from the renditions of such stars as Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Bob Marley and Krzysztof Komeda. We listened to unforgettable hits of Henryk Wars, Jerzy Petersburski and Stanisław Hadyna. The most astonishing performance was probably that of Ewa Stańko who had not been heard in Poznań for a long time. She surprised the audience by singing poetry by e.g. Zbigniew Herbert and by an interesting rendition of "Summertime", a standard well remembered thanks to a wonderful interpretation of Ella Fitzgerald. Moreover, the audience liked a lot Piotr Schulz's interpretation of "Blowing in the Wind", known from Bob Dylan's repertoire, as well as Dixie Company's (see photograph) rendition of "When the Saints Go Marchin' In".
